Performance opportunities for the Amateur Actor

Acting Performance opportunities for Children, Students and Adults.

So you love acting, performing, So where do you start ? Usually children are lucky enough to benefit from performance and acting experience either at school or their local drama school. However what happens to those who cannot afford classes or those whose schools don't have enough resources to be able to stage their own productions. Well luckily, there are a few options, open to all.

Amateur Theatre
One of the best places to start finding acting opportunities is your local amateur company, they are always looking for fresh young talent and you would be a welcome addition to any Amateur dramatic society. Amateur company details can usually be  found either at your library or your local Theatre. All you then need to do, is give them a call and ask how you go about joining their company. Normally there is a small yearly subscription payable.  Each year the Amateur Theatre societies do a couple of different productions, some prefer musicals whilst others offer more straight acting opportunities. Once a production has been decided on you will be invited to audition, you may have to prepare a song or an acting piece or read from the proposed script. Everyone gets a chance, and, depending on the production both young and old get to take part. Amateur Theatre companies are definitely the back bone of british theatre, and a huge asset to our communities.

Checkout our 'Amateur Theatre Auditions' page. If you know of any companies who would like to post audition news please tell them to email dramaclasses. There are also Shakespeare Company's like the one in the Chilterns, Buckinghamshire.

Your Local Pantomime
Another great way for young children to get involved in performance is the local pantomime.   Each year theatres up and down the country put on pantos and are looking for children to take part, why not call your local theatre and ask about auditions.

The only thing I would like to say to parents is :

do be prepared to drop everything to run your child to and from rehearsals. Flexibility is the key.

Visit our 'What's on at Your Local Theatre 'Page for information.

Festivals
Festivals is a superb way to gain performance skills and for a small fee young and old can show off their talents, more details of festivals can be found on our web page 'What is a Drama Festival'
