Bullying in Rickmansworth Schools

Is Your Child a victim of Bullying?

When I was 10 I was bullied in school, by the time I was 11 I was lacking in confidence and felt intimidated by others, my self esteem was very low. My story is no different to hundreds of other children. Luckily for me I identified a passion for the Arts and I immersed myself in after school classes and quickly blossomed into a confident teenager.

Bullying is an age old problem and I am always amazed how many schools find it hard to stamp out the problem. Children who are victims become introverted and end up feeling pretty worth less, with their parents feeling like they have let their most precious person in the world down, as the child takes a step back from school activities their parents struggle to find a permanent solution to the problem.

So how can you boost your child’s confidence and start the New Year on a more positive note for you and your child? The answer is quite simply ‘Drama’ attending a weekly drama class can have a huge impact on your child. As a teacher of Drama for over 20 years I have witnessed some really great transformations, children who have quite literally not been brave enough to even hear the sound of their own voice have blossomed into strong, confident charming young adults.

Each week in Drama children learn to communicate and listen to others in their class, through improvisation and Drama Games they learn essential life skills such as listening, reacting appropriately and quick thinking. Interacting with others is hugely important which is why team activities are so beneficial. By exploring their own creativity kids will gradually grow in confidence and classes will give them an opportunity to form important friendships outside of school. The social skills that they will learn in class will benefit them long after they have left school.

With Drama having been cut from so many schools timetables it is no wonder that part time drama schools is a thriving business.

I established Blag Youth Theatre in 1997 and during the last 15 years I have seen quite literally, hundreds of kids pass through our doors, our unique teaching style has transformed many young children into confident young adults. Whatever your child chooses to do in later life Drama will help them make the most of their opportunities.

Our Classes in Rickmansworth are unique, as unlike other local schools in the area our main focus is ‘Drama’. The cost is £9:00 for an hour and a half session and you can pay weekly for the first term, giving you and your child an opportunity to assess whether Blag is the right choice.

I am delighted that over the last 15 years children who have passed through our door have gone on to become Doctors, Lawyers, Managers, Actors, Musicians, Teachers and Plumbers. One thing they all have in common is Blag and the confidence it gave them to become the person they are today.
