WestEnd Stage Summer School News

The West End Stage Summer School is a unique week-long theatre training programme for 8 – 21 year olds. It is one of the most popular and prestigious of its type in the UK. The Summer School provides an engaging course of workshops to improve skills in singing, dance and drama, and is a perfect complement to the ongoing theatre training at their local drama schools. The Summer School is held each year in the world-famous Guildhall School of Music & Drama, past students of which include Ewan McGregor, Daniel Craig and Orlando Bloom. Each school day will see classes conducted throughout the morning and early afternoon, with the week also including a group outing to a West End production, followed by a master-class taken by the cast of the show. The latter part of the day will be set aside for rehearsal towards the school’s climax: a showcase performance in Her Majesty’s Theatre, home to The Phantom of the Opera, in front of an invited audience of friends, family and industry professionals. Many of the students use the Summer School as an opportunity to meet new friends with similar interests, or as a platform from which they can progress to higher education in the performing arts, be this through university or drama school. Indeed, one of last year’s students, Jessie Buckley, has recently made it into the final 12 contestants of the BBC talent contest, I’d Do Anything, with a great chance of landing the role of ‘Nancy’ in the new West End production of Oliver! We believe the Summer School to be a unique, educational and inspiring opportunity for young people with an interest in the performing arts, helping them to expand their understanding and experience in a safe and entirely supportive atmosphere*.
