Welcome to the award winning Lewes Drama Collective
Find out about the acting classes, theatre productions and holiday workshops that we run online and in Lewes, East Sussex - here's what we have coming up next...
Our students currently meet via Zoom throughout school term time to learn about the world of performing arts through fun drama games and theatre productions that provide the skills needed to become an extraordinary performing artist.
When things return to normal and we may meet up in person again, our students may again try their hands at stage management, directing, lighting and sound, costume design, as well as a variety of theatre production skills.
Learning how to act
Each of our groups are coached and directed by professional actors and teachers who use specialist acting exercises, games and focused drama workshops to create a didactic experience that will drive the students to achieve their best whilst having a great time.
Our stage acting and performing arts learning process involves:
- character analysis and development
- vocal training
- movement and interpretation
- text evaluation
- scene study
- regular feedback
- individual and group tuition
As well as performing monologues, taking on scripted roles and devising their own pieces, students can work with experienced back stage crews in order to learn more about the entire process of theatre production.
During normal times, we proudly offer our students regular access to the excellent rehearsal space and stage at the All Saints Centre in Lewes.
Led by Tim Rowland, James Firth-Haydon and Timothy Telford, Lewes Drama Collective members produce a number of theatre shows each year within a packed programme that offers all participants to practice their craft in different stage settings.
Productions and Performances
Our Junior Club was founded in 2015 and have already put on some fantastic productions, including The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe, The Wizard of Oz and Rudyard Kipling's classic tale of The Jungle Book. Their latest production was a brand new panto inspired by the 300 year old legendary tale of Robinson Crusoe. The Junior Club's next production will be the RSC version of Arabian Nights adapted by Dominic Cooke.
The award winning Youth Group has been running for over a decade now and over the years, members have presented shows on stage at the All Saints Centre and in the past as part of Lewes Little Theatre's main season, including His Dark Materials - Part II and His Dark Materials - Part I, Robin Hood, Around the World in 80 Days, Treasure Island, Alice in Wonderland, The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
The next planned productions that the Youth Group are:
- This Changes Everything by Joel Horwood - October 2020
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding (adaptation by Nigel Williams) - October 2020
Our Senior Group performed their very first show at the All Saints Centre in Lewes on 15th September 2019 titled Beatus Medium - a brand new play by Tim Rowland. Their last production was Dracula: The Bloody Truth, which went down very well indeed.
Saturday Acting School students have created their own unique multi-media productions, and performed Pinero's Victoriana comedietta - Trelawny of the 'Wells' on Saturday, 14th April. The next production in their schedule will see the group sharing the stage with the Youth Group for Floyd Dell's - King Arthur's Socks and Other Village Plays on 27th September at 3pm in the All Saints Centre in Lewes.
Other productions that our students have performed include an array of current and traditional stories such as: The Adventures of Jason and the Argonauts, Collected Grimm's Tales, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Animal Farm and a number of unique variety shows wherein students showcase their talents and get to choose their own pieces and performing arts methods.
Students are aged 5 years and up, and come from Lewes (East Sussex, UK), Seaford, Newhaven and Brighton as well as surrounding villages across East Sussex.
New students join each term, and most members have been with us for at least 2 years, with some for over 15 years!
We are proud to offer a free taster session for our virtual classes to anyone who would like to try us out.
