Lewes Theatre Youth Group - LTYG
Award winning Lewes Theatre Youth Group - LTYG - Acting classes and holiday workshops in Lewes, East Sussex
Lewes Theatre Youth Group (LTYG) students meet during school term time to learn about the world of performing arts through fun drama games and theatre productions that will provide the skills needed to become a performing artist.
In addition, members may also try their hands at stage management, directing, lighting and sound, as well as a variety of theatre production skills.
Learning how to act
Groups are coached and directed by professional actors and teachers who use specialist acting exercises, games and focused drama workshops to create a didactic experience that will drive the students to achieve their best whilst having a great time.
Our stage acting and performing arts learning process involves:
- character analysis and development
- vocal training
- movement and interpretation
- text evaluation
- scene study
- regular feedback
- individual and group tuition
As well as performing monologues, taking on scripted roles and devising their own pieces, students can work with experienced back stage crews in order to learn more about the entire process of theatre production.
We are proud to offer our students regular access to a stage with a 154 seat auditorium for annual major productions as well as smaller stage show opportunities.
Led by Tim Rowland and James Firth-Haydon, the LTYG produces a number of major, medium and small theatre production and shows each year as part of The Lewes Little Theatre's programme, enabling all drama students to practice their craft in different stage settings.
Productions and Performances
Alongside the Lewes Theatre Youth Group's own season at the Lewes Little Theatre, each year we will be featuring a Junior Club production. Since it's formation in 2015, the Junior Club has presented The Wizard of Oz by Alfred Bradley from the story by L. Frank Baum and in 2018 they're performing Rudyard Kipling's classic tale of The Jungle Book.
Over the years, LTYG members have professionally presented shows on stage as part of Lewes Little Theatre's main season such as Robin Hood, Around the World in 80 Days, Treasure Island, Alice in Wonderland, The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Other plays that LTYG have performed as part of it's own season include The Adventures of Jason and the Argonauts, Collected Grimm's Tales, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies and a number of unique entertainment shows wherein students choose their own pieces and performing arts methods.

100% learning experience
In a recent LTYG Student Satisfaction Survey, the Directors were delighted to see that 100% of the students enjoy LTYG workshops, whilst feeling that they are learning and more able to focus on tasks.
It is very reassuring that since the students have started with LTYG, the majority also feel more positive, better about themselves and more confident when trying something new.
Here are just a few comments from some of our students:
- “I joined LTYG to learn how to act and be on stage. What I like most is that the tutors teach us like professionals.”
- “Being a LTYG member means I can learn new styles of acting.”
